THE MOMASE BOND

Writer's picture: Kelvin Cwemareng SogoromoKelvin Cwemareng Sogoromo

Shout out to Momase Region of Papua New Guinea. We share bonds that are forged from the essence of the Earth and the Heavens. Don’t let political boundaries of this civilized error define your state of belonging/origin.

We may have been once a respective race of this great land centuries back, with ties and similarities that bound us as one. Regardless of what they (we) formally call ourselves today, we are one people. Grouped together in a region, because we share not only geographical vicinity but many things that drew us to be where we are today. Sago may be well known in Sepik as staple food (Nangu) but it is a source of food across the region and other places too in PNG. With variations in the way it is prepared or eaten with etc… The same shells collected and worn in hamlets along the shores of Madang, hangs beautifully diagonal on Sepik and Morobe’s attires. Our customs and traditions are nevertheless, the same with very little adjustments differed.

Same shark blong Wewak save swim raun long bismark wara go Madang, tanim Lae, kam go vanimo na kam back sua. Same Kumul blong Morobe save fly kam Madang, raun kam osem ‘Manui’ long Sepik, lukim sun go down na go back. Same flying fox blong Madang save, raun long bus blong Morobe na Sepik na Same sun save go daun long sandaun West Sepik em mipla olgeta lukim.

After all, we are family. The same applies to the whole nation. Thus, in similar scope on national scale. We are all interconnected from Momase up to Highlands, down to New Gunea Islands and to Southern. We are not different. We are one people, bound together by the island of Papua and New Guinea. Let no civilized principles of boundaries and order replaced your natural inherited sense of belonging.
