Nepotism and ‘Wantok system’ has been a hindrance for change in East Sepik and PNG as a whole. The upcoming National elections in 2022 will determine the fate of this country and the vision 2050 if we’re ever going to achieve it as planned. – In 2022, the power will be at our finger tips to elect the right leaders for change and salvation of our economy. Thus, it is important that we vote for candidates who can meaningfully represent us in parliament and not spectators. Vote for candidates with intellect and wisdom, leaders who will be sufficiently confident to discuss political and economic issues on the parliament floor, those who can negotiate funds and development on national and international scale, those with experience and knowledge of the political arena and most importantly those who possess and uphold values of the Sepik Society. – “Sepik mipla man blo mekim nois lo Waigani na influencim policy making yah!” – Taim blo Grand Chief, Sir Peter Lus na Narakobi em pinis nau. LUKLUK NA MAKIM OL SAVE MAN BLO TOKTOK NA BRINGIM SENIS. – No offense but, most of our elected Sepik MPs from the past elections seem to be observers in the parliament rather than fully taking part in the decision making. It is obvious, perhaps they lack confidence and knowledge in representing us and their respective districts. Perhaps they’re pretending to know what they are doing but they simply do not. – An applause for Governor Bird for remarkable representation of the people of East Sepik so far. May you be the model MP for this term, next and onward. – Don’t vote for your fellow tribesmen or well-known business men just because he’s been there with you in your little district for the past years. Instead, we should critically analyze candidates educational background and expertise before casting votes. – “Yu makim boy blo yu long ples nambaut go ba sindaun passim lek han olsem longlong lo parliament na ba you karai lo sevis na development lo ples stap.” – There is also a great need of education and awareness to our local rural folks on electing the right candidates. Seems like most of their votes go to their ‘wantoks’ and those they have a sense of attachment to rather than critical voting. – They also need to know ‘what goes on in the parliament.’Henceforth, they have this mentality that once they elect their MP. The MP orders development and have all the funds available for without actually knowing the processes involve in securing funds and bring ‘bout real developments. – “Money stap long bikpla basket yah yu salim man nogat save long kisim money, how ba em kisim money na karim kam senisim ples?’ – We should also be mindful of the parties we vote for if change of government is a major concern. – VOTE THE RIGHT PERSON SO WE CAN HAVE OUR VOICE IN THE NATIONAL
